One of the most important industrial designers of the 20th century, Achille Castiglioni. Born in Milan in 1918, Castiglioni started work as an architect and designer. Together with his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo in 1938, they ventured out into designing and studying architecture at the ‘Politecnico di Milano University’ and set up a design office in 1944. Eventually, Castiglioni became the renowned industrial designer he is known for today.
Being predominantly inspired by ordinary every day materials, he was a big fan of using the most minimal amount of material to create forms with maximal effect.

Hence, Castiglioni the designer and creator behind the famous kitchen utensil company from Italy, ‘Alessi’. Famous for making everyday items from plastic and metal, the brand presents functionality by use of simplicity, irony and fun and its unmistakable visual trademark.
